Turbacz scenic trails

Turbacz is such an extremely nice host from Gorce. And the Gorce Mountains are like a mountain starfish, because no matter where you start hiking, you will eventually find your way to the Władysław Orkan shelter for tea on one of the "mountain arms". Just below the highest peak, under Turbacz. It can be noisy, noisy and crowded here. Completely different than on the nearby peak. Our observations show that most people only go to the shelter, from where there is a fantastic panorama of the Tatra Mountains.

Lake in Czorsztyn

An interesting way to visit the reservoir is a boat cruise on Lake Czorsztyńskie. The Harnaś ship is a floating cafe from which you can admire the surrounding nature and monuments. While sailing, you can admire the Dunajec Castle in Niedzica, the Castle in Czorsztyn, the Niedzica Dam and the open-air museum on the Stylchyn Peninsula from a different perspective. The ship's harbor is located in Niedzica Zamek, at the foot of the fortifications. There is a path straight from the castle to the "White Lady" marina. Cruises take place from May to October and last approximately 50 minutes. You can also go for a walk along the top of the dam. The dam is 404 meters long and almost 60 meters high. It collects water flowing from an area of 1,287 square kilometers. In emergency conditions, the devices installed on the dam allow the discharge of 2,000 cubic meters of water per second. Below the reservoir there is a second, much smaller, Sromowieckie Lake. It serves as an equalization reservoir for Lake Czorsztyńskie.

Bór nad Czerwonem reserve

"Na Czerwonem" reserve with an area of 2 ha was created already in 1925. In 1956, thanks to the efforts of Prof. Władysław Szafer, the area of the reserve was increased by 47 ha and was named "Bór na Czerwonem". Further enlargement of the area the reserve of 64 ha took place in 2001. It is the only peat bog and forest reserve in the Polish part of the Orawsko-Nowotarska Valley, which is rich in peat bogs. It has preserved diverse and well-developed forest, transitional and peat biocenoses. The "Bór na Czerwonem" reserve owes its name to the algae Zygonium ericetorum, whose thallus is red in autumn. The reserve is located in the Nowy Targ Forest District, in the Bór Forest District. In the near future, the Voivode of Małopolska will issue a regulation to expand the area of the reserve to 114.66 ha. The forest area will be 113.47 ha, with over 45 ha of raised peat bog covered mainly with sparse woody vegetation.

Białka Gorge Reserve

The most famous river gorge in Poland is the Dunajec River, but the Białka gorge in the village of Nowa Biała is also worth attention. It is created by one of the coldest rivers in Poland, flowing picturesquely between two rocks - Obłazowa and Kramnica. The gorge area is protected as a nature reserve established in the 1950s. Currently, the reserve areas are used for recreational purposes. The beautiful scenery of the Białka Gorge was used in film productions: "Janosik" and "Karol - the man who became Pope".

Cave in Obłazowa

The cave is located in the Spisz area in the village of Nowa Biała and is one of the geological attractions of the Białka Gorge nature reserve. It gained fame due to a unique archaeological find in the form of the oldest boomerang in the world, which was made from a mammoth tusk around 30,000 BC. The replica allowed tests to be carried out, thanks to which it was known that the range of this weapon was over 60 m. During archaeological works carried out in the cave, the remains of a woolly rhinoceros, a cave lion and a reindeer were also found.

Podhale Museum

The museum was established in the 1960s and is located in the Town Hall. Its collections include over 7,000 museum exhibits. It organizes temporary and permanent exhibitions that present, among others: traditional Podhale ceramics, furriery as an important element of the development of Nowy Targ and other crafts. The permanent exhibition presents the equipment of the 19th century printing house: a unique manual printing machine brought from Vienna to Nowy Targ, a pressure printing machine, a set of fonts, leaflets, newspapers, brochures (published in the Nowy Targ printing house). The museum collection also includes extraordinary sculptures by Edward Sutor, a resident of Nowy Targ, a sculptor and a self-taught artist. Sutor is a well-known figure among people of art, especially those who deal with its primitive form. During the war, the artist was a forced laborer in Germany and a camp prisoner. The suffering he experienced then had a significant impact on his work.

Muzeum printing

The Printing Museum in Nowy Targ is located in a new building created as part of the project "In the footsteps of technical monuments from Podhale to Liptov", which was implemented in 2017-2018 as part of the EU Cross-border Cooperation Program Interreg V-A Poland-Slovakia 2014-2020 by the Municipality of Nowy Targ Market with partners from Slovakia - Žilina Self-Governing Region and the Municipality of Ludrova. Exhibited together with numerous accessories and ephemera, first in the Regional Museum of the Nowy Targ Region and later in the Podhale Museum. Czesław Pajerski in Nowy Targ. The facility recreated a former printing house based on the model of Ignacy Borek's factory, which had been running since 1898. Original machines and equipment allow you to learn about old printing techniques and processes. The exhibition, which consists of an impressive digital collection of old prints and photographs as well as interactive applications, will present the cultural, social, political and economic life of Nowy Targ at the beginning of the 20th century.

Chamber of Cold War and Socialism

At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, a new building was added to the existing building of the Presidium of the District National Council, and in its basement, in accordance with the defense doctrine of that time, the Management Position of the Municipal Inspectorate of Civil Defense was established. It was from this place that in the event of war or other threat, the city office would be managed and the activities of the civil defense formations would be coordinated. The "shelter" rooms were classified as a type II hiding place and were equipped with steel doors protecting only against bomb explosions. In order to ensure appropriate working conditions in the event of an armed conflict or other threat, the management position was equipped with communication means enabling contact with other offices and civil defense units. If the steel door was tightly closed, the supply of fresh air was ensured by a special ventilation system equipped with appropriate filters, which remained functional despite the passage of many years. In the event of the collapse of the building, the designers also provided an emergency exit leading to the yard of today's City Hall.
